30A Final Reflection

Image
1) Read through your posts from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread. Overall, I enjoyed this class. I think what I liked the most was actually the stuff I learned. I feel like the exercises taught me a lot and I'm very glad to have all of this new information about entrepreneurship. The lowest part of the class for me was when I missed a couple assignments. It was really hard for me knowing I missed out on those points and there was literally nothing I could do.  2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing? I think the most formative experience to me was the process of coming up with an idea for an actual company and having to develop it in detail. That taught me...

Venture Concept No. 2

OPPORTUNITY I imagine the group of customers for my concept to have these qualities: ·       The desire to learn more about skincare ·       A lack of dermatologist-approved skincare knowledge ·       The money to spend on my service  The list of qualities is small because this service is inclusive. Anyone of any age, gender, race, and background can and should want to take care of their skin. A big force in creating this opportunity is the Internet. By way of blogs, Youtube channels, and the multitudes of social media platforms, everyone has been given a voice. This has given everyone the opportunity to spread any kind of skincare information they want, and a lot of it is not supported by dermatologists. The Internet is also where my service would be based, so anyone with Internet access and a device could use my service. The subscription is fairly inexpensive, so I think it would be access...

28A – Your Exit Strategy

1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? I think it's hard to estimate an exit strategy right now. My business could blow up, get super popular, and be worth millions, or it could never gain any traction. As hard as I try, it may not be what the market really needs right now. This being said, if I did succeed, I would stick with it as long as I wanted to. Maybe when I established it and maintained it for a good amount of time, and I trusted it to live without me, I would sell the company to someone I trusted. By that I mean a buyer who I know will maintain the values and integrity of the company. If the costs of the company end up outweighing the benefits, I might pause where I'm at, wait a few years, and start it back up again. T...

27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? I would say the main theme of this book was marketing through social media. The author, Guy Kawasaki, gives many useful tips on how to build your social media platform and reach greater audiences. Kawasaki encourages social media users who just browse and post without much thought to really take a strategic mindset when it comes to using social media sites. Some of the main tips are to treat social media like a business, give your followers the content that they want to see, and reference your other accounts so you can promote your brand across multiple platforms.  2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? This book gave a lot of useful tips concerning self-branding and networking, which are concepts that I consider relevant to ENT3003. For example, Kawasaki emphasizes the importance of creating content that people actually want to spend their time consuming, rather...

26A – Celebrating Failure

1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.  A time I failed this semester was when I missed a deadline to apply for an important opportunity. I had completely forgotten about it, and by the time I remembered it was about a week past the deadline. I felt so stupid, and my parents were upset with me. I tried emailing the person in charge of it, but they refused to allow me to apply. I missed out on a good opportunity and there was nothing I could do about it.  2) Tell us what you learned from it.   I learned a lot from this mistake. It strengthened my determination for future opportunities and kind of forced me to establish some more direction in my life. I decided that since I missed this opportunity, I would do everything I could to pursue the myriad of other great opport...

25A – What’s Next?

Existing Market.  I think the next thing for my venture is collaborations with influencers and skincare brands. I would have my team reach out to them to form a sponsorship deal where they promote us in a video or post and we pay them to do so. I would also offer a discount code for their audience. We would also reach out to skincare brands and promote them on our site if they would offer our customers a discount of some sort or some free samples.  The first person I interviewed thought my venture concept was good and they couldn't really think of anything to do that we weren't planning to do. They think my ideas of involving influencers and brands are great, but hey advised me to only partner with people that truly liked our company and shared our core values. I agreed that this is something we should do. The next person said that we should hire someone to maintain the website and update it, whether that be the person who created it or someone else. They think partnering...

24A – Venture Concept No. 1- Skin Savior

OPPORTUNITY I imagine the group of customers for my concept to have these qualities: ·        The desire to learn more about skincare ·        A lack of dermatologist-approved skincare knowledge ·        The money to spend on my service (which isn’t much) The list of qualities is small because this service is inclusive.
