My Entrepreneurship Story

I think my most significant entrepreneurship experience was when I ran my own online consignment shop. I have always enjoyed thrift shopping, and I love taking my time to search through the clothes to find really unique and fun clothes. When I posted my finds on social media, a lot of my friends mentioned that they have a hard time finding good second hand clothes, or they don't enjoy looking through the clothes for a long time. I took this as an opportunity to create a new Instagram account to resell the clothes I got from thrift stores. I took pictures of all of the clothes, recruiting my friends as models, and then set my selling guidelines. I decided to set a low starting price and then allow people to bid on the clothes for a certain amount of time. I used my own personal Instagram profile to advertise (pictured below is one of my makeshift ads), and I had a really good amount of people bidding on the clothes. They all sold, and I ended up doing another round of selling clothes before I left for college. I think this was a really good experience, and it sparked my interest in entrepreneurship.

I decided to take ENT3003 because I wanted to learn more about what entrepreneurship is and how I can be more successful in it. I think the knowledge I gain from this course will be useful in whatever career path I choose to follow. I hope that by the end of this class I will have a more concrete understanding of entrepreneurship, and that I will be able to apply the principles of it to any aspect of my life.

  1. If you were in front of me telling me this story, you would have my absolute, undivided attention. Having the drive to actually make an idea happen is truly rare, and scary to most that may consider it. I’m so impressed at how natural the idea and execution was to you. Similar to your love for thrift shopping, I’m sure we can all find a hobby that is small, niche, and unique to our own lives, and usually, that is where the dream ends. You, however, found a way to extend your passion out to others, make people aware, appreciate, and make people want what you love. If I had to offer any advice in an area where you can improve, it would be this. Though, I completely agree with you when you say that this was a “good experience,” and I would encourage you to go beyond that and understand that what you did was experience an enlightening moment of success in your life and an inspiring tale for your readers. I am excited to hear about what cleaver ideas you come up with throughout this class, I encourage you to continue to give every idea as much thought as you did with your thrift business, and in the process… perhaps fill us in a little bit more about how you brain storm ideas, self-doubts (if any), and how you overcome them.

  2. Hey there! I really enjoyed reading this post. I see how you took initiative and tried to solve the issue your friends were having. I also really liked how you made do with what you had, such as using your own account for advertising and making your own ads. I think this shows that you truly have entrepreneurial qualities, and I'm excited for your future. Maybe you can start doing this with UF clothes? Great post!
