23A – Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage

1. I am creative and inspired to work on this service. -this is valuable because it is necessary for the company's growth. It is my own creativity and inspiration, which makes it rare and inimitable. I think this is non-substitutable because someone else's creativity and inspiration wouldn't be as valuable to my company as my own.

2. I am empathetic and I want to help people. -this is valuable because the desire to help people is the reason for my service's existence. Like the human capital, these traits are rare and inimitable because they are my own. This is non-substitutable because I need to have these traits as the leader of my company.

3. I know how to function in a professional setting. -this is valuable because I will have to function in a professional setting as the leader of a business frequently. I don't really think functioning in a professional setting itself is rare, but my own way of functioning is rare and inimitable. It is non-substitutable because I can't have someone else represent me in professional settings or just avoid them.

4. I have made social connections to help my network. -this is valuable because connecting with other people is essential to helping your business grow. This is rare and inimitable because no one has the exact same relationship with the people I know. This is non-substitutable because a good social network cannot be replaced.

5. I know how to make new social connections. -this is valuable because I will definitely need to make new connections at some point in my career. It is rare and inimitable because no one can make connections exactly like I can. This is non-substitutable because nothing can possible replace the ability to make new connections

6. I am a good listener and communicator. -this is valuable because we are always listening and communicating, whether it be with customers, employees, bosses, etc. It is rare and inimitable because no one communicates exactly like I do. This is non-substitutable because nothing can replace good communication and it is essential.

7. I have experience working for someone else. -this is valuable because if I am going to be the leader of my company, I need to know what an employee would need from me. My experience is rare and inimitable because no one else has my exact experience from my workplace. It is non-substitutable because every experience is invaluable.

8. I am learning how to understand financial and economic principles. -I am currently planning on studying these valuable skills, which would help me manage my business's finances or at least recognize someone who I could hire to do so. An education in finance and economics isn't really rare or inimitable, but combined with my own financial experiences it is. This is non-substitutable because it is very important for a business to have knowledge on financial matters.

9. I have some skincare knowledge. -I have learned some things about skincare specialists and dermatologists, which is valuable because it has inspired me to make the information I learned more accessible. This is somewhat rare because not everyone gets good, medical-grade skincare information, but it is imitable. I think it is non-substitutable because it is part of what made me choose this service as my project.

10. I feel comfortable learning new things and changing my perspective. -this is valuable because it is necessary for my own personal growth, which will be reflected in the growth of my business. It is somewhat rare and inimitable because it is my personal ability to learn and grow. It is non-substitutable because it is needed for any growth to happen.

I think the most important resource is my desire to help people with this service. It is the reason I came up with the idea for my service, and it will continue to inspire me throughout the process and development of it. It is more important than the rest of my resources because without it, the other resources wouldn't be relevant. I need to want to help people because my service's main goal is to help people.

  1. Hey Haven, well done on this assignment. It seems you focused on your individual strengths and capabilities as your advantages. It is interesting to me that you would pick your desire to help people as your most important resources but I see how it makes sense. Having drive and motivation to get something done is an important resource for being successful.

  2. Hi Haven,
I really liked your post. I also emphasized my social skills and thought of them as being very important. Also, when you mentioned that you know how to function in a professional setting, I appreciated how you differentiated that from others and made it your own by saying, "my own way of functioning is rare and inimitable." This was very clever on your part. Lastly, I like how you closed this post out by talking about how you want to help people. It is a great resource and I admire choosing it to be your best, reminding me o why services exist in the first place.
